Volunteer Appreciation Event

 Hi all,

Hope you are having a nice beginning to your summer! I am writing to you because you have volunteered here at Care-Age of Brookfield in the past. I want to let you know that our volunteer appreciation event will be held on July 24th in the courtyard. Our theme is “Under the Tuscan Sun.” We will be serving Italian food for lunch and will be serenaded by a “nice Italian boy” who comes from a family of Italian musicians. The volunteer recognition will be at the same time as the resident/family picnic this year. We can also use help during that day if you want to help. Just wanted to have you save the date if possible. Invitation to follow via snail-mail.

If you do not wish to be contacted regarding volunteering here again, please let me know and I will remove your name from our list.

Thanks for all you do,

Tammy

 Family Letter

Aloha Families!

As I write this, I hear Hawaiian music coming from the Life Enrichment Center as residents are busy stringing leis as a part of National Nursing Home Week. This year’s theme is “Living the Aloha Spirit.” We have lots of fun events planned for the entire week. We in LE would like for you to know what is going on here with your loved ones. There are a few general information items that I will pass on here but if you would like periodic updates on special events, outings, parties, please send me an email.  I know I have some of your email addresses already but I have a new system and it would make it easier to reach everyone if you could just shoot me an email with the word “family” in the subject line. Also mention in the text your loved one’s name who is in residence here at Care-Age and if it is not apparent by the email address, your name. If you do this, you can expect periodic updates from me. My email is tammy@care-age.com

A few things you may already know but I want to be sure.

1. You and your loved one are cordially invited to any and all activity groups listed on our calendar. We strongly encourage residents to participate in activities that are meaningful to them. Any information you can provide us on prior hobbies or interests can help us to focus on those things. Also we have lots of different ways to approach shy or hesitant new residents but ultimately, a person has a right to refuse participation.

2. We usually have big family events here 2x/year. One is in July (the 24th this year.) The other is in early December for Christmas. Please watch for these invitations as both of these events usually fill up quickly.

3. If you wish to have Journal Sentinel delivery, you must set that up with the newspaper directly. You must also let us know whenever there is a change in the subscription status. The papers are dropped here in a box and we have no way of knowing who the papers should be delivered to unless you tell us.

4. Regarding other deliveries packages, cards, letters, flowers (more on flowers to follow) please make sure the resident’s full name is on the outside of the package or envelope. You would not believe it but we might actually have 2 or more “Aunt Esthers” at any given time!

5. If you order flowers for someone here, especially on a holiday, please consider using a local florist vs. an “online” option. We get so many flowers delivered around Mother’s day and the “box” flowers usually require a lot of attention from us to unpack and arrange before delivery. We don’t mind helping with this but we are not florists and for the money you pay the flowers I have seen are nowhere near the quality of a local florist. If you need a good one, I can recommend A New Leaf in Brookfield. I spoke with the owner and she suggested to look at their website www.anewleaffloral.com choose what you like and then call them, she said you could save some money and be sure to get what you want. I can vouch for the quality of their arrangements and believe me, I see a lot of flowers. And, no, I don’t get any kickbacks! It just pains me to open a box of roses scrunched in a box with zip-ties around the stems and wilting leaves and petals and I know someone paid a pretty penny for a beautiful vase full of roses they saw on the website.

So I think that’s enough for now but if you want to know more please shoot me an email. Also, if you have any questions about anything we do here in Life Enrichment feel free to contact us. Email is a really good way to get in touch with me. Hope to see you all at the picnic!

Aloha,

Tammy and the Life Enrichment Team
